The Film and Television Industry's Got Georgia On Their Mind! Part 2

Film studios are opening up left and right in the state of Georgia. This not only brings many job opportunities, but it just goes to show that Georgia is truly the new Hollywood Of The South.

Here is a list of studios that are right here in our own back yard in metro Atlanta:

• Located only 5 miles from downtown Atlanta, EUE/ Screen Gems Studios, is a newly renovated 33- acre, film and television campus. It houses stage 5, which is one of the countries largest stages, at 37,500 square feet and has five sound stages.

• Tyler Perry Studios, opened in 2008, is 200,000 square feet, and is located in southwest Atlanta. This is where television shows such as House of Payne, and For Better Or Worse are filmed.

• East Mountain Studios, located in Conyers, is a premiere television, film, and commercial and video production studios. East Mountain Studio had its soft grand opening in February 2013, for the citizens of Rockdale, County. Some of the latest projects that East Mountain Studios their work includes: Joyful Noise, starring Queen Latifah, KeKe Palmer, and Dolly Parton. Fast 5, starring Vin Diesel, and American Reunion.


• Triple Horse Studios currently operates out of Hollywood, CA. Triple Horse Studios have the pleasure of working on projects such as; The Casting Crowns latest concert, titled Life Song, a children’s production called Miss Patty Cake, as well as Songs of Praise for America, which will air on the fourth of July. On April 13th, 2013, Triple Horse Studios announced that they will build a Hollywood style film studio in Covington, GA. They will “ultimately (be) investing $100 million with the goal of solidifying Covington’s position as the Hollywood Of The South.”


Before moving to Atlanta in 2000, I considered moving to Los Angeles, CA to pursue acting. However I am very glad that I did not because of all of the great opportunities for film and television here in Georgia. This is only the beginning!

Atlanta, Georgia appears to be the industry’s new hub for filming. I guess that is why Georgia is called the new “Hollywood of The South.”  Filming not only takes place in Atlanta, but also on the outskirts of the city. I live in a small town called Conyers. As of late, filming for a movie called Prisoners starring Hugh Jackman, and Jake Gyllenhall took place about 3 miles away from my home. This spring, Draft Day, starring Kevin Costner, Jennifer Garner, and Dennis Leary, will be filmed in the Cleveland, GA area. During the summer months, movies such as A Friggin’ Christmas Miracle starring Lauren Graham and Robin Williams will be filmed in Atlanta.

Not only are there major motion pictures being filmed in and around Atlanta, there are also a plethora of television shows filmed here too! The Vampire Diaries is filmed in and around the city of Covington (two highway exits east of Conyers). Its pretty cool to drive downtown on the Covington Square and often times see the television set, set up for the cast and crew. Shows such as, Lets Stay Together and Reed Between The Lines are both filmed at TBS studios, and air on BET. Movie and television mogul Tyler Perry, also films all of his television programming in Atlanta, right at his very own studios! Television shows such as; Meet The Browns, House of Payne, and For Better or Worse all air on TBS. Perry also has a few new television shows, which will begin airing on the OWN Network, in May. These shows are The Have’s and the Have Nots, and Love Thy Neighbor.

As I have stated above, there are many major motion pictures and television shows filmed right here in our backyard. Most of the productions are always looking to cast certain characters, or even background extras to be included in those productions. If you are and actor and want to gain some on camera experience and you do not know where to begin, you can always start by “liking” certain pages on Facebook. These pages will point you in the right direction as to how you can get involved. Pages such as: Extras Casting Atlanta, or New Life Casting. These casting pages, update daily as to what is filming, and what is needed.
